Synchronicity

Synchronicity

This concept was introduced by Karl Jung, the famous Swiss psychologist and psychiatrist, who worked during the first half of the 20th Century. The easiest explanation of synchronicity is that it is a small miracle, something which is happening in denial of the normal distribution of events and is believed to be caused by higher forces at work, or the alchemy of matter and thoughts.

Karl Jung addressed the phenomena after an event that happened during one of his psychoanalytical sessions. He had a female client who was very resistant to any treatment because of her exaggerated rationalism. One day she was telling him her dream. It was about a golden scarab, exceedingly rare in Switzerland’s climate. During the storytelling, something hit the practice room window. It was a golden scarab. This event changed her approach to life.

Another famous person who dedicated his time to synchronicity was Wolfgang Pauli, the physicist and Nobel prize winner who had an anecdotal ability to break experimental equipment simply by being in the vicinity. These strange occurrences caused his interest and investigations into parapsychology. At one stage of his life, he had the opportunity to go to the USA to work with Einstein, who considered Pauli to be his successor, or to work with Jung on synchronicities. He chose the second option.

At the end of 2014, my first massively apparent synchronicities appeared. They were connected to seeing the multiple occurrences of the number one. Like 11:11, 1:11, 111.11 and so on. Whenever I looked at my watch it showed 11:11 or 2:11 or 5:11 or 1:11. It scared and annoyed me at the beginning. I considered it a coincidence. But the moment I received a gas bill for 111.11 AUD, I took a bit more of a serious look at what was going on around me.

I started to assess the probability of these things happening. With the frequency I look at my watch, I realised that according to probability, I should see the time 11:11 once every two months! And taking the range of my gas bills under consideration, the probability of charging me the amount 111.11AUD was 0.00014. Magic?

I started to understand Einstein’s saying: “You can live as if all is normal or you can see everything as magical.” It's true that I step on the side of magical, the bottom of the rabbit hole, or whatever you want to call it.

As time passed, more and more improbable things started to happen to me. One example is that in the morning, I always choose three Angel's cards (oracle cards) randomly just to have a topic for contemplation and eventual guidance for the day. One day I chose the following: the first was "Mother Mary," the second "Let it go," and the third was "Look for signs." I reflected on the short explanation of them and after that, as every morning before, I took a shower and turned some music on. The lyrics struck my ears … "When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me, speaking words of wisdom, let it be." At the time, I had circa three and a half thousand songs in my iTunes library.

People interpret the happenings of synchronicities differently. I like to call it, "A wink from the Universe," the confirmation that I am on the right path.

When Pooky came to my house, I was experiencing many synchronicities. Once he asked me, "What are you going to do today?"

"I am going to play with the Universe," I replied.

I explained to him that on days when I do not have to file my taxes or make appointments with a plumber or dentist, it is my favourite pastime. I just allow myself to feel the total bliss of freedom, let go and allow the magic to happen. Life unfolds by itself … just me and my best friend, the Universe.
